Locomotive exhaust fume extraction system
Fume and exhaust extraction fume systems for depots of any types of locomotives and fuelling railway rolling stocks, give a high capacity of fume extraction in low pressure in order to extract diesel emissions produced by engines during park operations and maintenance in rail depots.
The bespoke vacuum systems are developed according to 5 different layouts to adapt to needs, resources, standards, and specific features of customers sites. Adjustable, this system is a good response to all existing rail rolling stocks.
The locomotive exhaust extraction fume systems, specifically study to the rail industry and to the locomotive train diesel engine, can be proposed according to the following 5 different concepts, made in industrial way and which offer a lot of attractive features:
- A sliding extractor hood system, reference model, generally proposed with 2 hoods, with one hood posted to each end of the rail depot, and can move alongside the track (+/- 15m) to allow to have the perfect adjustment above the diesel engine fume exit. This solution can be used with roof cranes after the definition of controlled park zone for the mobile extractor hoods.
- A sliding and articulated extractor hoods system. This solution is very appreciated by rail maintenance companies because this solution enables to have a very precise positioning of the vacuum hoods and to retract them to use on the same track movable catenaries or roof cranes.
The 2 solutions proposed, the ordinary ones, authorizes offset length up to 5 meters of the suction point.
- An extractor hoods and pipes system coming from the top of the train, sliding along the track and sideways to can have an ideal adjustment above the diesel engine fume exit, without side stands, and to offer a whole freeing above the train thanks to its retractable spiral hood sheath which can do down from a 10m-high ceiling. This concept is also adapted to the use of retractable catenaries and roof cranes.
- A folding frontal extractor hood system, coming in front of the train at the end of the railway.
- A specific extractor hoods system for the use above rotundas in closing zone.
All these solutions are suitable for every type of fuelling railway rolling stocks. They guarantee the whole absorption of the locomotive fume emission from every level of power engines. All the systems can work with extreme degrees of temperature. The sizes of the hoods and the pipes have been thought to keep quiet allowing the right power to extract all the fume. The extraction hoods have been designed for working in an industry environment and to maximize the adaptation of the train patterns.
Generally, all these solutions include:
- Aluminum rectangular extractor hoods, for saving weight and for being adapted to the train patterns,
- Horizontal self-supporting pipe with inside linings, be put together along the track on the existing stand of the depot, up to 10m between stands.
- 1 low pressure and direct traction centrifugal fan enabling a powerful and reliable extraction
- An extraction item permitting at all the exhaust extraction system to keep the extraction capacities without losing load
- A spiral duct with air exit on the roof of the depot made up for a collar and a ‘Jet’ hat to secure the extraction of the diesel gas.
The extraction hoods control can be done by different ways up to the customer:
- A remote control
- A radio command system
- An included system of engagement management and position plot in order to interface with peripheral equipments.
Remark: The exhaust extraction fume systems are too much quiet that they usually supply with visual information to show the state of the extraction hoods.
